Cadmium telluride solar cells are a third-generation solar cell that uses the semiconductor material cadmium telluride to absorb sunlight and convert light energy directly into electricity. Compared with silicon-based solar cells, cadmium telluride solar cells have the advantages of high conversion efficiency, low material consumption and low production cost.
The working principle of cadmium telluride solar cells is: when sunlight hits cadmium telluride, it will cause the electrons in cadmium telluride to jump to the conduction band, and at the same time leave holes in the valence band, so that there is a potential difference between the electrons and the holes, and under the action of an external electric field, the electrons and holes migrate in opposite directions, forming a current in the external circuit.
The key technologies of cadmium telluride solar cells mainly include: 1) oxidation of P-type semiconductor layer, 2) doping of N-type semiconductor layer, 3) preparation of TCO transparent conductive layer, 4) selection and preparation of back electrode, etc. With the continuous optimization of materials and processes, the conversion efficiency of cadmium telluride solar cells is expected to be further improved.
